Keep the hour

Gateshead Council is planning to scrap the free hour at Lowrey's  Lane car park and local resident Dawn Welsh is leading the campaign to keep it.

The free hour at Lowrey's Lane was introduced after the Focus Team pressed the Council to do so in order to help the businesses. The Council plan to scrap the free hour, and revert back to the old system of 20 minutes free parking, once they have removed the barriers on Durham Road. This is planned to take place in late July.

Dawn said "We need the Council to keep the free hour. The free hour encourages footfall in local businesses and will help them recover. It is important to parents who need to drive to drop and collect children at Kells Lane Primary School. Finally, the free hour has increased use of the car park and the free hour discourages drivers from clogging up neighbouring streets such as Wilson’s Lane".
