Labour bosses at Gateshead Council are planning to scrap the Thrive Fund. The Fund is a funding programme available to voluntary, community and social enterprise sector organisations with an annual income of less than £250,000 and is aimed to support and develop their capacity and resilience to create stronger communities in Gateshead. The Fund typically supports charitable organisations providing services and activities for the most vulnerable groups in Gateshead. Some of those organisations who have previously been helped by the Fund include Friends of Felling Park and Town Centre, Gateshead Autism Group, Samaritans of Tyneside, Felling Volunteer Library, Age UK Gateshead and many more.
Dave Fawcett, Lib Dem campaigner for Felling, said "This Fund has been a lifeline for many community groups in Gateshead. Without it many would go to the wall. I am disgusted that Labour bosses at the Council are proposing to scrap it. The most vulnerable people in our community will be hit hard if they go ahead with this. They should be ashamed of ever proposing this."
Gateshead Liberal Democrats have launched a petition to keep the Thrive Fund. If you agree with us, please sign the petition below.
I call on Gateshead Council to scrap their plans to get rid of the Thrive Fund and to keep it
